Call for Papers - Special Issue of "ICT Activating Society"

Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of "ICT Activating Society".
Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake on March 11, 2011 has thrown issues about the way ICT (Information and Communication Technology) should be on many researchers. It is said that ICT is much widely used, e.g., using social media for safety confirmation, worldwide information sharing from environment sensor, medical/health information, compared with the 1995 South Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake. However, there are limitations in providing correct information, physical support, etc.
According to the change of social requirement such as power saving, we should change the way of daily activities. The requirement for ICT should also change through the stream.
There are many research works supporting advances of information technologies in various areas related to information systems and networks. In the current situation, the editorial committee of the Journal of Information Processing has been considering what and how ICT can support. As one of our approaches, we recruit special papers to overview the latest trend of the following technologies that have possibility of activating our society.
This special issue focuses on ICT activating our society, which has possibility of changing the way our society is or supporting societies, communities, or individuals.
We welcome papers on topics including but not limited to: smart grid, disaster prevention information systems, green computing, cloud computing, SOHO, the Internet, security, network architecture, context awareness, multimedia systems, groupware, Web services, mobile computing, location-based systems, SNS, sensor-based or ad-hoc network, network design or operation, fault tolerance technologies, emergency communication, DTN, autonomous distributed systems, simulation, information visualization, failure diagnosis, multimedia retrieval, VR/AR, ubiquitous technology for disaster contingency, applications and social systems.
Prof. Norio SHIRATORI of Tohoku University, who is the former president of IPSJ, and Dr. Itsuki NODA of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) have been invited to act as guest co-editors for this special issue.

This special issue focuses on these network technologies becoming ubiquitous in society.

(2) All papers will be reviewed. The review process will be carried out in the same manner as regular issues. However, you have shorter time than usual (two months) for preparation of your responses to inquiries.

(3) Submission deadline is October 10, 2011 October 24, 2011.

(4) The special issue will be published on the J-Stage website in July, 2012. Preprint will be published on the IPSJ Journal in July, 2012.
