Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of "Mobile Communication and Intelligent Transport Systems for Creating a New Trend in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Society".
Through the rapid spread of smart user devices and the recent advances in the wireless broadband communication technologies, the research and development in mobile communications and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) are entering a new stage. Smartphones provide an open and powerful development platform for researchers and developers. Mobile telecommunication services continue to evolve for providing broader bandwidth to users. They both are expected to be platforms for new location-based and context-aware services. Also, after facing with disastrous earthquakes, it becomes more and more important for our society to utilize advanced mobile communication technologies and ITS technologies to deal with big challenges like disaster prevention, disaster recovery, reduce of energy consumption and so on. Now it is highly required for us to make use of state-of-the-art technologies in mobile communications and ITS to create a new trend in evolution of ICT society. To this goal, we need to investigate individual technologies to enhance their own capabilities and also federate them to leverage existing technologies: network control technologies like media access, routing and session controls, middleware technologies for seamless provision of services and ubiquitous computing technologies like situation-awareness and context-aware computing. Furthermore, the ITS should be investigated to construct a low-carbon society. The special issue of "mobile communication and intelligent transport systems for creating a new trend in information and communication technology (ICT) society" will focus on the latest research on ITS, mobile communication, and ubiquitous communication to discuss how they should be in future. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following;
- Mobile communication (system architecture, protocols, management, security and applications)
- Sensor networks, home networks, and ad-hoc networks
- Wireless broadband (3G/LTE/4G cellular), wireless LAN, Bluetooth, ZigBee, UWB, and DSRC
- Mobile, ubiquitous and wearable computing
- Mobile agent, web services, and mobile cloud
- Intelligent transport systems
- Location-based protocols, systems, and applications
- HMI, mobile phones, personal navigation devices, and electronic payment infrastructure
- Transportation management (supply chain management, traffic estimation and prediction systems)
- Advanced driver assistance systems
- Image processing (lane departure warning system, object recognition and traffic flow observation)
- Ubiquitous / Internet intelligent transportation systems
Prof. Keiichi Yasumoto of Nara Institute of Science and Technology has been invited as the guest editor of this special issue.
