Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of “Intelligent Transportation Systems and Mobile Communication toward Smart Communities.”
Smart Community is an infrastructure over the sophisticated fusion between information communication technologies and intelligent transport systems. A lot of researches of mobile communication and intelligent transport systems have been proposed to achieve a smart community. In the area of mobile communication, for example, the researches include ad-hoc network and sensor network technologies for users not just as an inhabitant but also a pedestrian or a driver, and some of services based on such researches have been already provided. In the area of intelligent transport systems, researches aim to upgrade an in-vehicle system with information communication technologies, develop inter-vehicle communication systems, improve localization systems for vehicles, and focus on developing a next generation vehicle.
These research and development areas are important to realize Smart Community.
In the special issue of “Intelligent Transportation Systems and Mobile Communication toward Smart Communities,” the program committee especially seeks paper submissions in these areas, as follows.

・Mobile Computing System(Architecture, Protocol, Management, Security)
・Sensor Network, Information Appliance / Home Network, Ad-hoc Network
・Communication Medium (3G Cellular, Wi-Fi,, Bluetooth, ZigBee, IrDA, DSRC, Digital Broadcasting, etc.)
・Mobile / Ubiquitous / Wearable Computing
・Mobile Agent, Mobile Web Service
・Mobile Application, RFID Tag
・Intelligent Transportation System
・Geometry Information System, Location Aware Service
・HMI, High Performance Handheld Devices, Electronic Settlement, Security, QoS, OS
・Transportation Management (Supply Chain Management, Traffic Estimation and Prediction System)
・Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
・Image Processing (Lane Departure Warning System, Object Recognition, Traffic Flow Observation)
・Ubiquitous / Internet Intelligent Transportation System

Not only papers about the above topics but also papers relevant to intelligent transportation system and mobile computing topics will be welcome. We invite Dr. Saito at Information Technology R&D Center, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. as the guest editor for this special issue.
