Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of “Network Services and Distributed Processing”.
The Internet has grown to be an indispensable social infrastructure that supports many aspects of our lives. The growth of the Internet is still continuing with several changes of its characteristics by following the requirements from new network services. For example, various sorts of devices not only PCs and workstations but also mobile phones, smartphones, home electronics, sensors, etc., get to be connected to the Internet so that the amount and the variations of data traffic grow rapidly. New types of network services have appeared such as social network services that provide cyber spaces for communications instead of one-to-one of one-to-many communications such as e-mails. To sustain the evolution of the Internet, wide variations of cross-disciplinary and forward-thinking studies are required in addition to the advanced computing and networking technologies. More specifically, future studies to develop the Internet should include: smart network services that support our living environment using sensors and actuators, user-oriented and context-aware content delivery services, environments for collaboration over large amount of knowledge, mutual relationship between society and technology in consideration with privacy and security, communications in the environments that have not imagined so far, etc. It is essential to discuss wide range of social and technological tasks and its solutions over the above issues in combination of traditional network technologies, including every layer from physical to application ones.
In this special issue, we focus on the challenges for the wide range of research topics “Network Services and Distributed Processing,” inviting Dr. Kushima (NTT Software Corp.) as the guest editor.
