Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of “the Internet and operation technologies toward the end of the era that relies on human operator’s ad-hoc solutions.”
It is obvious that the Internet and information systems providing network services are inevitable social infrastructures for our daily life in these days. That also means users take 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week availability for granted as a matter of course. To meet their expectations, daily operations are as significant as the system design.
A problem daily operations often inherent is that they heavily depend on human resources and are difficult to scale up as fast as systems enhancement. Another problem is that operators tend to make great but ad-hoc solutions to solve various operational troubles of running systems.
It is strongly desired to operate and manage information systems by autonomous systems to reduce human operator's effort and improve productivity. To achieve this goal, it is important to perform quantitative evaluation of the systems.
In this special issue, we will publish papers on the research issues related to the Internet and operation technologies toward the end of the era that relies on human operator’s ad-hoc solutions. We welcome a variety of papers related this theme including practical experiences that can be generalized and useful for readers. Hayato Ishibashi at Osaka City University has been invited as a guest editor for this special issue.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following areas:
- Automated system operations/management for computer systems and network services
- Quantitative evaluation of operations/management of computer systems and network services
- Monitoring technology of network systems and services
- Quality evaluation of network systems
- Quantitative evaluation of network management and policy management
- Quantitative evaluation of design/construction of information systems
