Call for papers - Special issue of "Network Services and Distributed Processing"

March 7, 2025
Editorial Committee of the Journal of Information Processing

Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of “Network Services and Distributed Processing”.
The Internet has become an indispensable social infrastructure that supports many aspects of our lives. Its importance is expected to grow as companies and schools move online, which accelerated after the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as digitization such as DX (Digital Transformation) and CPS (Cyber Physical System) work to solve social problems. In addition, terminals connected to the Internet are expanding from PCs and smartphones operated directly by users to IoT devices, in-vehicle devices, devices that operate autonomously by AI. This expansion is driving new network technologies, such as 6th generation mobile communication systems, network virtualization, edge networks, and LPWA (Low Power, Wide Area network). Network service infrastructures are also required to support various applications and services, providing information to users, collecting information from physical space, and sharing information between data centers for large-scale data analysis. In particular, networks are required to support AI technologies, especially generative AI, which has attracted attention in 2023, as well as AI-based network service enhancements. To sustain the evolution of the Internet, wide variations of cross-disciplinary and forward-thinking studies will be required in addition to advanced computing and networking technologies.
 Explicitly, this includes
- new network services that support smart living environments using sensors and other devices.
- smartphones and IoT devices that collect the information needed to make these services a reality.
- platforms that create, share and distribute new value using AI technology based on the information collected.
- the interrelationship between networks and society, including issues such as privacy and security.
etc., it is necessary to not only create new research fields, but also to clarify the issues of networks and computing required for their realization, and to discuss various technical and social issues and solutions, from the physical layer to the application layer.
In this special issue which is edited by the guest editor organization, we focus on the challenges for the wide range of research topics “Network Services and Distributed Processing” such as network infrastructures, cloud computing of a new generation, services and applications and so on.

Submission Guidelines

(1) All papers must be submitted electronically. Please access the following URL and proceed under the submission instructions:

https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ipsj

Once you have submitted your manuscript, you cannot change it.
So, you must submit the final version of your manuscript.
If, by mistake, you submitted a wrong version, please contact the IPSJ secretariat <s1m-at-ipsj.or.jp> (Replace -at- with @).

In the event you would like to make a submission, you must first create an account on the paper submission Web page. For detailed information, please refer to the manual available from the link “Instructions & Forms” at the top of the submission page.

(2) All papers will be reviewed. The review process will be carried out in the same manner as regular issues. However, you have shorter time than usual (eight weeks) for preparation of your responses to inquiries.

(3) Submission deadline is April 30, 2025.

(4) The special issue will be published on the J-Stage website in February, 2026. Preprint will be published on the IPSJ Journal in February, 2026.
